Dendustri South Africa was started towards the end of 1994 as a new business unit concentrating on commercial industrial activities. The plant was commissioned in Richards Bay to manufacture and supply more than 13,000 anode stem assemblies required by the new Hillside smelter, owned by the BHP Billiton Group.
By 1995 Dendustri SA was successfully awarded a three-year anode stem maintenance contract from the Hillside smelter. This contract was renewed in 1999, for a further 4 years.
In 2004 Dendustri SA acquired the anode stems maintenance contracts for both Hillside and Bayside aluminium smelters. And by late 2004, a production line was set-up for the manufacture of steel spiders which replaced the existing cast iron spiders.
